Solo, also known as Surakarta, is smaller that Yogyakarta but is still a center of culture and the arts. A more relaxed town than Yogya, it has been referred to as the least Western town in Java. Solo, as Indonesia Java International destination, also has International Airport, there are direct flights into the city, buses run between it and Yogya or Semarang, but taxis will also willingly ferry you between the two towns.

So many places you can find in Solo, the food taste is sweet also, Nasi Liwet, Nasi Ayam, and Timlo are the local food you should try in Solo, the Indonesia Java International destination.

INTEREST DESTINATION IN SOLO

Keraton Kasunan and Pura Mangkunegaran
The junior brand of the Solo royal family lives in Pura Mangkunegaran, a smaller palace complex that belnds European elegance with traditional Javanese architecture. Build in the seventeenth century, it fetautres a Pendopo and a Pringitan.

The Pendopo is where guests are received and banquests and gamelan performances are held. Two sets of 300-year-old gamelan instruments are on displays and played once a week.

The Pringitan is a verandah that was specifically designed for wayang (shadow) puppet shows. In the center of the building is a Krobongan. A room kept especially for newly married couples, which features two statues, one of a man and one of a woman, which symbolize well being.

The colors used to paint the palace all have specific meanings and are meant to provide protection against various negative forces as well as encourage health and happiness.

The palace also has a large collection of antique costumes, jewelry, masks, silver and crystal wear and weapons. Beautifully kept gardens surround its central courtyard.

Radya Pustaka Museum
It’s the oldest museum in Java. A statue of Ronggowarsito, a Keraton poet of the past, stands in the front courtyard. The museum houses and extensive collection of antiques, wayang, gamelan, keris and Dutch and Javanese text.

Danar Hadi Batik Museum
Also known as the Wuryaningratan Batik Gallery, it is an excellent place to learn first hand about the process behind this quintessential Javanese- and Indonesian – fabric.

It display a range of traditional and modern cloths as well as the tools used to produce them and the history of the country can be read through the changing styles. Both hand painted (batik tulis) and stamped batik (batik cap)is available at the attached shop.

Handicraft Manufacture
Around 15 km to the South of Solo, the Sukoharjo region is a good place to explore some of the local cottage industries fabricating Javanese culture. Worthy of note area:
